Shallal: Iraq stands by Syria to overcome the effects of the earthquake

Damascus, SANA- The Iraqi government and people will stand by the Syrian people till they overcome the ordeal of the devastating earthquake that struck their country, Staff Major General Dr. Mazen Hamid Shallal, representative of the Iraqi Minister of Defense affirmed.

In an interview with al-Sourya TV on Sunday, Shallal said that the Iraqi government has given directions to the Iraqi army since the earthquake disaster occurred to mobilize all efforts to provide whatever assistance can be provided to the Syrian people.

Shallal added that two convoys of humanitarian aid have been dispatched so far to the Syrian people by the Iraqi military.

According to Shallal, the first convoy included 40 trucks with a load of 510 tons of foodstuffs, while the second included 42 trucks loaded with 325 tons of various relief materials, pointing out that the aid is ongoing.

“The Syrian and Iraqi people have a long common history, so it is the duty of the Iraqis to stand by their Syrian brothers in this ordeal,” Shallal said.
