Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad received Sunday Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and the accompanying delegation.
President al-Assad stressed the importance of the organization delegation’s visit to Syria in these circumstances, in order to see the medical and humanitarian needs required to treat people affected by the earthquake.
President al-Assad expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the organization in this regard, and the provided support for the health sector in Syria.
His Excellency considered that Syria looks forward to effective cooperation with the WHO, based on a comprehensive vision that assesses the situation of the health sector and aims to repair the shortage in supplies, equipment and medicines that did not meet the needs of emergency and relief cases such as earthquakes or epidemics only, but also help respond to the medical needs of the Syrian people in facing serious and chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes and others.
Ghebreyesus, in turn, indicated that his visit to Aleppo city yesterday was an opportunity to identify the necessary medical and humanitarian supplies to deal with the injured from the earthquake.
He indicated that the WHO has sent a batch of emergency medical supplies and another batch will be sent in the coming days.
The members of the delegation affirmed that the WHO is ready to work with Syria to face the consequences of the war and the earthquake, and to contribute to providing assistance according to the required needs.
