Damascus, SANA – Five-day anti-polio vaccination campaign was launched on Sunday in all areas and makeshift centers and through mobile medical clinics and teams.
The campaign targets children under five regardless of their former vaccinations.
Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi said during his tour to the First Health Center in Jabla city in the coastal province of Lattakia that the ministry has taken all necessary measures to achieve the aims of campaign.
The ministry distributed three million vaccines, allocated 7723 health workers, 1828 skillful volunteers and 888 cars to accompany the mobile vaccination teams to all areas, the minister added.
Yazigi called on families to bring their children to the healthare center or the nearest mobile team to have them vaccinated regardless to their previous vaccinations, affirming that vaccination is free, safe and meets the best quality standers of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The campaign is in the framework of continuous efforts by the ministry to protect children and eradicate polio.
In Damascus, the campaign targets 300,000 children through 37 health centers and 159 mobile teams to vaccinate children in 263 temporary residence centers and kindergartens, according to medical sources in the province.
In Damascus Countryside, this round of immunization targets 395,000 children, about 48,000 of which are living in hard-to-access areas, with the total number of workers participating in this campaign amounting to 1143, 351 mobile teams and 89 cars.
Meanwhile in Daraa, the campaign targets 125, 260 children, with 580 health workers partaking in the campaign, among them 300 taking part through mobile teams in Dael, Tafas, and al-Shajara, as well as three mobile teams in al-Sanamain city.
Meanwhile in Homs, the campaign targets 190,000 children from the province in addition to children in temporary residence centers.
In the southern province of Sweida, around 54,000 children, including displaced children, are targeted in this campaign with 90 health centers and 23 mobile teams.
In Hama, the campaign targets 308,000 children from the province and all children from other provinces who live in Hama. 1272 health workers in 150 health centers will participate in the campaign, with around 122 mobile teams to cover far areas which don’t have health centers.
In Quneitra, the vaccination campaign targets 49,000 children, 10,000 of them are in the province while 15,000 children are currently in Damascus Health Zone, and 24,000 in al-Ziyabia in Damascus Countryside. Around 20 health centers with 200 health workers are participating in the campaign, 120 of them will be in mobile teams.
The campaign targets 201,000 children in Idleb province through 85 health centers and 74 mobile teams.
In Hasaka, the campaign is targeting around 247,000 children through 60 health centers and 46 mobile teams.
In Aleppo the, around 245,000 children under the age of five will be vaccinated through 500 health workers and skillful volunteers and 73 mobile teams.
In Tartous, a coastal province, around 130,000 children under five years old will receive vaccinations through 130 health centers distributed in all the areas of the province and nine medical points to cover all makeshifts centers, in addition to mobile teams.
The Health Ministry had launched a sub-national vaccination campaign at the start of 2015 to provide vaccines against various diseases to children in 549 villages and population centers across the country.
