Moscow, SANA- Syria and Russia on Wednesday discussed cooperation in cultural and religious domains.
A meeting was held between Minister of Endowments Mohamed Abdel Sattar El-Sayed and MPs at the Russian State Duma. The Minister briefed the Russian officials on the Syria’s experience in the religious field and the ministry’s efforts to renew religious discourse and fight extremism. El-Sayyed noted to the joint efforts with Christian churches in Syria to consolidate the deeply-rooted Islamic-Christian relationship.
He expressed the Syrian people’s appreciation for Russia’s stance in support for Syria and its territorial integrity against terrorism and the countries that back it.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma, Petr Tolstoy, expressed his country’s gratitude for the Syrian stances in support of Russia. He stressed that the agreement to be signed between the Syrian Endowments Ministry and the Religious Administration of Russian Muslims will be an important document and a cornerstone for more cooperation between the two countries.
In turn, Syrian Ambassador in Moscow, Riad Haddad, underscored the importance of the meeting to discuss cultural and religious cooperation, as well supporting Russia in the military process to protect Donbass.
He added that “Russia represents tolerance, accepting the other and rejecting extremism.”
