Syrian-Italian talks on role of culture in peacemaking, rapprochement among peoples

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Bashar al-Jaafari discussed on Thursday with an Italian delegation from the Venice Association for Italian-Arab Friendship, the important role of culture in peacemaking and the visits and cultural projects in strengthening rapprochement among the peoples.

Al-Jaafari briefed on members of the Italian delegation, headed by Eng. Paolo Casillo and included a number of Italian intellectuals and academics, the importance of enhancing the historical relations linking Syria with Europe.

He reviewed the historical relations linking Syria and Italy, stressing the need for restoring the economic and political relations between the two countries to a level that match with their historical levels.

Al-Jaafari briefed the Italian delegation on the terrorist war targeting Syria and the wrong policies that some EU countries have adopted which do not serve the interests of their peoples.

For his part, Casillo  talked about the importance of the visits and the cultural relations in building bridges of communication between the peoples that are linked with a long joint history , particularly in light of the huge misleading media campaign that give a distorted image of the other countries, especially the Middle East Region.

He also reviewed the cultural projects that the Association wants to carry out in Syria, in addition to the similarity of the customs between the Syrian and Italian peoples.
