Damascus, SANA- Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Mohamed Hassan Qatna, discussed with a Sudanese technical delegation, headed by the Undersecretary for Agriculture Production and Forestry, Badr El-Din El-Sheikh Mohamed El-Hassan, the agricultural calendar and means of re-activating Syria-Sudan signed agreements.
Qatana asserted the importance of the joint Arab cooperation as a basis for achieving the food security, referring that “the agricultural sector is permanently changeable according to the global economic and climate changes; thus it is important to organize an agricultural calendar and agreements signed among countries”.
Minister Qatna called for giving interest in specific crops produced to be consistent with the natural resources in each country for self-sufficiency and potential trade among Arab countries.
He pointed to the importance of redrafting the mutual scientific and technical cooperation agreement and the need to bring it into effect to boost the exchange of agricultural products between both countries.
Dr. Nasr Edin Obid, the Director-General of the Organization of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands (ACSAD) stressed the organization’s keenness to promote cooperation among Arab countries and support sustainable agriculture development programs.
Director General of International Relations at the Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Dr. Fatima Mohamed Rahma, stressed the importance of such meetings and the need to develop relations for upgrading the agricultural sector and bilateral trade cooperation.
