Baghdad, SANA- Means to enhance cooperation between Syria and Iraq in the domains of agriculture and irrigation were discussed on Tuesday.
That came during a meeting between Iraqi Water Resources Mahdi Rashid al-Hamdani and Head of the General Union of Farmers, Ahmed Saleh Ibrahim, in the presence of Syrian Ambassador in Baghdad, Sattam Jadaan al-Dandah.
According to a statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources, during the meeting, al-Hamdani said that irrigation facilities in Iraq and Syria were damaged as a result of the control of Daesh (ISIS) terrorist groups over some areas in the two countries.
The Iraqi minister underscored the importance of continuing cooperation and joint work in order to improve the irrigation reality between the two countries by holding seminars and workshops, developing the ministry’s staff in the two countries, and exchanging visits and meetings at the ministerial and technical levels.
Syria, represented by Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Tammam Raad, had participated, in the 2nd Baghdad International Water Conference, which was held in March last year, where a memorandum of understanding was signed between the ministry and the Arab Center for Studies of Dry Areas and Arid Lands “ACSAD” to exchange scientific information and develop technical capabilities of workers in the field of irrigation and enhancing joint cooperation.
