Damascus, SANA- Syria and Russia have discussed means to enhance relations of joint cooperation in the scientific and health sectors.
That came during a meeting between Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim and Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Natalia Bocharova, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Dr. André Plotinsky and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, Minister Ibrahim underlined the importance of Syrian-Russian relations, which have witnessed great developments at all levels, especially in the scientific and health sectors.
Ibrahim expressed the desire of the two countries and peoples to strengthen the bilateral historical relations.
Ibrahim stressed the need to activate cooperation agreement signed with the Russian Ministry of Higher Education in line with scientific development, in addition to supporting the Russian Language Department at Damascus University, exchanging students and professors and holding training and qualification courses to build capacity and raise the scientific competence of teaching staff.
He highlighted the importance of scholarships offered to Syrian students, which amounted this year to 750 scholarships in medical and engineering specialties.
In turn, Natalia Bocharova stressed that Syria has always been one of the most important partners and allies of Russia in the region.
She shed light on the importance of cooperation between Syria and Russia, especially with regard to graduate students and teaching the Russian language at Syrian universities, and the possibility of signing cooperation agreements involving the exchange of students, professors and joint experiences, hoping that they will be fulfilled on the ground in the interest of the two peoples.
Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation affirmed that hospitals in Syria will be supported and provided with expertise and modern medical equipment.
