Moscow, SANA- Russia strongly criticized the European Union’s plans to organize the so-called conference “’Supporting the future of Syria and the region” in Brussels without inviting the Syrian and Russian governments to it, stressing that the conference has no value without their presence.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that holding the conference without participation of representatives from Syria and Russia, and without the international sponsorship, turned it into a Western gathering that has no added value.
In this conference, according to the statement , there is no real effort to solve the urgent humanitarian problems in Syria away from any politicization within the guided principles that are internationally acknowledged on humanitarian support.
Washington and Brussels suffocate the Syrian people by imposing illegal unilateral sanctions, and the US occupy lands in the Syrian al-Jazeera region, and al-Tanf area and plunder the Syrian natural resources, the statement stressed.
“The declared goals of the conference remain the same, yet the European Union is trying to achieve these goals without cooperation with the Syrian government and without inviting its representatives to the conference ,” the statement read.
“Brussels decided this time not to invite Russian officials ,who participated in donors’ conferences on Syria, to attend the event, prompted the UN officials to give up the status of co-chair of the conference and only attend at the level of experts,” the statement added.
The statement pointed out that “the Brussels conferences are sinking deeper into the reckless politicization of humanitarian issues, as Western organizers bear the responsibility of doing their best to prevent the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, regardless of the unfortunate deterioration of social, economic and living conditions in the countries hosting them.”
The stamen indicated that the Americans and the Europeans impede the implementation of the projects for the early stage of the reconstruction in Syria by putting forward political preconditions, including the extension of the mechanism for transferring aid across the border, which undermines Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
