Mikdad: Syria, Iran keen on having best relations between regional countries… Abdollahian: Strategic relations with Syria going through best conditions

Damascus, SANA- Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, arrived in Damascus on Wednesday morning, at the head of a high-level delegation to hold talks with senior state officials on regional and international developments and ways to enhance bilateral relations.

Upon his arrival at Damascus International Airport, Abdollahian was received by Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, a number of the Foreign Ministry’s senior officials, and Iranian Ambassador in Damascus, Dr. Mahdi Sobhani.

“This visit is another opportunity for us, as has been the case over the past years, to consult on matters that concern our two countries and the latest developments in the region. I think that a lot of water, as they say in the West, has flown under bridge, so we must brief Minister Abdollahian on the latest developments and affirm once again our standing by the Islamic Republic of Iran in its smart and creative dealing with the nuclear file,” Mikdad said in a statement to journalists.

He added “We will discuss bilateral relations and the latest developments after the Russian military operation in Ukraine, and we will also discuss what is behind that, in addition to our common stances towards these developments.”

“Our discussions will be fruitful and will come up with what serves the interests of our two countries and the region, since we, in the two countries, are keen on having the best relations, as well as providing the best atmosphere for relations between the countries of region, including Iran and the Arab countries,” Mikdad said.

In turn, Abdollahian said: “Iran supports Syria’s leadership, government and people, and the strategic relations between our two countries are going through the best conditions, and what serves the interests of both countries in the political, economic and trade fields will be discussed,” noting that the economic issue is on the top of priorities.

It is noteworthy that Iranian minister visited Syrian last August, as he stressed in a statement that the relations between Tehran and Damascus are strategic, noting that the two countries will work together to confront the economic terrorism imposed on them.
