Competent authorities in Daraa thwart attempt to smuggle large quantities of narcotics

Daraa, SANA – The competent authorities in Daraa southern province have thwarted the smuggling of large quantities of narcotic Captagon while they were on their way to the Jordanian border.

“After careful and intensive security follow-up operation, an attempt to smuggle large quantities of the narcotic Captagon was thwarted and they were confiscated,” a source at the authorities told SANA reporter.

The source added that the seized amounts were estimated at hundreds of thousands of pills that were intended to be smuggled towards the Syrian-Jordanian border.

The source added that a number of smugglers were arrested, while others fled away and work is underway to arrest them and bring them to court.

On December last year, the competent authorities thwarted the smuggling of large quantities of hashish and the narcotic Captagon, that were intended to be smuggled towards Jordan.
