In a solemn procession… Aleppo bids farewell to renowned artist, Sabah Fakhri

Damascus, Aleppo, SANA-With the participation of representative of President Bashar al-Assad, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Mansour Azzam, Aleppo bid Farwell, in a solemn procession, to the body of late renowned artist Sabah Fakhri amid attendance of official, popular, artistic, cultural and media figures.

Upon the arrival of the body from Damascus,  , the funeral prayer was performed for the soul of the deceased at Abdallah bin Abbas mosque.

Earlier, body of Fakhri was escorted from al-Shami Hospital, wrapped in the national flag and carried on the shoulders towards the Umayyad Square in a solemn and massive procession.

From the center of the Umayyad Square, the funeral procession went  through some avenues of the capital.

The Late artist was born in Aleppo in 1933. He was awarded the Syrian Order of Merit of Excellent Degree in 2007 in appreciation for his great and distinguished achievements in the service of the Syrian Arab art.

He also held several positions and was elected Head of the Artists Syndicate, Vice President of the Union of Arab Artists, and Director of the Syrian Song Festival.

He hit the singing record when he sang in Caracas, Venezuela, for 10 hours without interruption in 1968.

Fakhri  died last Tuesday at the age of 88.
