Damascus, (SANA) Do you know that the health sector in Syria was one of the best systems in the Middle East before the outbreak of the terrorist war waged on Syria, especially with regard to the treatment of cancer patients.
Despite the high costs of treatment and the difficulties due to the unjust economic blockade against Syria, the health authorities have made great efforts to continue treating cancer patients for free, in addition to providing them with surgical, chemical, hormonal and immune treatment.
In 2019, the first factory for manufacturing cancer drugs was inaugurated in Syria in Adraa Industrial Zone, and it is considered the first of its kind at the national level and it has the capacity to cover 70% of the country’s needs for cancer drugs.
According to a study conducted by the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Chicago in 2016, cancer drugs are the most expensive in the United States, with an average monthly price reaching up to $ 8,694, while Syria, which has been suffering from harsh circumstances due to the war and sanctions, is still trying to provide free or minimal cost treatment to its citizens in light of the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.
