Iran renews call for lifting unjust sanctions imposed on Syria

Tehran, SANA- Iran has renewed the call for lifting the unjust sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, providing them humanitarian aid and facilitating the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.

The sanctions imposed on Syria and the politicization of humanitarian aid file have contributed mainly to exacerbating the difficult situation of the Syrian people, Ali Asghar Khaji Senior Adviser to Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs said, calling for lifting these sanctions.

Asghar Khaji’s remarks came in a phone call on Tuesday with Special Envoy of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Iraq and Syria, Ms. Hilde Haraldstad.

Haraldstad, for her part, hailed the efforts made by Iran for reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria, especially within the framework of the Astana process.

During the talks, both sides underlined the need to continue combating terrorism in Syria and the region as a whole.
