Christmas tree lighted in Basir town, Daraa countryside

Daraa, SANA –On the occasion of approaching Christmas and the New Year, activity of the “Homeland Tree ..a message from Syria to the world” , was held on Sunday, including the lightening of Christmas tree in St. George’s Church of the Melkites Catholics in Basir town, Daraa countryside .

Father Munawar Bakhitan, pastor of the Church of St. George, said that Syria is the cradle of peace and amity, adding that the Syrian people have remained steadfast despite of the unjust sanctions.

“Today we send a clear message to the whole world that the Syrian people are living together in love and fraternity,” Father Bakhitan went on saying, calling on the Western countries to lift their sanction of Syria.

For his part, Head of the Federation of Evangelical Churches in Houran and al-Arab Mount Pastor Gabi Batta stressed that the lightening of Christmas tree carries a message of peace and amity for the whole world.

Director of Daraa Tourist Department Yasser al-Saadi pointed out that for the second year in a row, a large Christmas tree was lighted in Basir town in Daraa which constitutes messages of charity, and love for the whole world.
