Rozana Handicrafts Exhibition opened in old city of Aleppo

Aleppo, SANA- With participation of 22 handicrafts and heritage bodies and civil and students activities, the Rozana Exhibition for Handicrafts and Professions were opened in Khan al-Katan (The Linen) in the old city of Aleppo.

The exhibition, which was organized by the National Union for Syrian Students, Aleppo Branch, in cooperation with the Syrian Professional Center, includes various professions, mainly wood, stone and copperplate engraving, Arabic calligraphy, glassmaking, metal forming, carpets, hand loom, hand embroidery, fur and leather.

Head of the National Union for the Syrian Students Darin Suleiman told SANA in a statement that the exhibition reflects the culture and civilization of the old city of Aleppo which has had a key role in the Syrian cultural heritage.

Suleiman added that the exhibition also constitutes a message for the university youth generation to raise their awareness on the importance of the heritage and need to preserve it after it has been targeted by terrorism throughout the years of the war on Syria.

She indicated that partnership among the artisans and the young generation is a call for protecting this heritage over generations.

For his part, Head of the Syrian Professional Center, Mustafa al-Nou said that the exhibition aims at reviving these crafts, preserve them and providing support to the artisans.

A number of craftsmen told SANA that the exhibition is an important opportunity to shed the light on these crafts, encourage them and help their owners to continue their professions.

A number of visitors expressed their admiration of the pavilions of the exhibition, asserting that  the exhibition shows the high professionalism and craftsmanship of the Aleppian artisan throughout history.
