Washington, SANA- Misleading policy practiced by US administration against states that don’t yield to its instructions even reached the US decision makers ,as James Jeffrey has admitted that his team deliberately misled US senior leaders about the real number of US troops in Syria.
Jeffrey, who lately resigned as a US Special Envoy for Syria said in an interview with the US website of “Defense One” that “his team routinely” misled US senior leaders about US troop level in Syria.
He pointed out that the real number of US troops in northeast Syria is “a lot more than” the roughly two hundred troops Trump initially agreed to remain there in 2019 ,saying “We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there”.
Jeffrey revealed that he, with assistance of some US officials, managed to convince Trump not to meet his promise of withdrawing his occupying troops from Syria, describing the issue as “a success story that ended with U.S. troops still operating in Syria” ,saying “Trump was inclined to pull out. In each case, we then decided to come up with five better arguments for why we needed to stay. And we succeeded both times, that’s the story.”
In January 2018,Trump announced his intention to withdraw the US troops from Syria and he repeated his declaration again in 2019,admitting that the US military presence is costly and benefit other states more than America, but he didn’t fulfill his promises, and perhaps the misleading and arguments created by Jeffrey and other officials are the reason behind that.
