Tartous, SANA- The Agricultural Directorate in Tartous has estimated the production of olive crops for the current season at about 92 thousand tons.
Head of Tartous Agricultural Directorate, Ali Younes said in statement to SANA reporter that the current season is good in comparison with the previous year.
He called upon farmers to adhere to the times and methods of harvesting olive fruits through the appropriate methods to preserve the olive trees and their fruits.
Younes affirmed that the directorate seeks to provide instructions to farmers with the regard to the ways of caring for the olive trees and the production through agricultural guidance units, in addition to distributing drugs and spraying necessary pesticides for combating diseases in order to get high-quality products of olive fruits and oil.
The areas cultivated with olive trees in the province amounted to 75,260 hectares and the total number of olive trees reached 11,103 million, of which 10,552 million trees are fruitful.
The production of olives in the previous season amounted to 103 thousand tons
