Health Minister: Health sector ready to offer investigative services to detect coronavirus infections

Damascus, SANA- Health Minister, Nizar Yajazi, affirmed that the health sector is ready to offer the investigative services at hospitals and health centers to detect any cases of coronavirus disease (COVID 19) and provide therapeutic procedures to the infected cases at the hospitals dedicated as lockdown centers.

“The health sector in Syria includes 25000 beds to offer treatment for those infected in coronavirus,” Minister Yazaji said Monday at a press conference, adding that there are big difficulties in providing ventilators because of the coercive, unilateral measures imposed on Syria.

On the laboratories that diagnose the disease, the Minister affirmed that his Ministry has expanded the labs which make such kind of analysis for samples taken from persons suspected of having the virus or they have similar symptoms in all Syrian provinces.

He said that the number of analyses is 100 per day, adding that work is underway to raise them to reach between 200 and 300 ones daily free of charge.

As for fears of the world Health Organization from the spread of coronavirus in Syria as being a destination for the religious tourism, the Minister said “We are with these fears, so the tourism has been suspended since three weeks in general.

The Minister called on citizens to commit to the preventive measures like staying at home, avoiding gatherings and wearing masks.
