Tehran, SANA_ Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated that a political solution is the only way to end the crisis in Syria.
That came during his meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen in Tehran on Saturday.
“Iran is fully prepared to cooperate in the context of this solution within the framework of respecting the sovereignty, independence and unity of the Syrian lands,” Zarif said.
Pedersen presented the latest developments of the crisis in Syria and ways to push the political solution of it forward.
Senior Assistant to Iran’s Foreign Minister in Special Political Affairs Ali-Asghar Khaji, during his meeting with Pedersen, stressed Iran’s position based on the necessity of fighting terrorism in Syria, protecting civilians and preventing them from being used by terrorist organizations as human shields.
Khaji expressed Iran’s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations to help facilitate a solution to the crisis in Syria.
In turn, the UN Special Envoy for Syria made a presentation for the latest meetings and consultations he held regarding means to push the political solution to the crisis in Syria forward.
