Paris, SANA_ Minister of Education, Imad al-Azab discussed with Assistant Director-General of the Science Sector at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Shamila Nair-Bedouelle prospects of joint cooperation in the field of scientific research.
The exchange of experiences for training and qualifying scientific cadres for university and post-university education was also reviewed.
The meeting between al-Azab and his accompanying delegation and Nair-Bedouelle was held Saturday on the sidelines of the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris.
Al-Azab confirmed Syria’s rejection of the attempts of some countries to politicize the work of the UNESCO.
Meeting UNESCO’s Deputy Director General Xing Qu, al-Azab pointed out to the French government’s attempt to withhold entry visas of the Syrian delegation to prevent it from the participation in activities of the UNESCO General Conference.
Qu welcomed participation of the Syrian Arab Republic delegation in the conference, appreciating Syria’s position which rejects the politicization of UNESCO decisions.
He indicated that the UNESCO demanded the French government to fulfill its obligations and grant the Syrian delegation entry visas .
