Nadia Assaf wins Sambo bronze medal at Asian Beach Games

Bangkok, SANA – Syrian athlete Nadia Assaf won a bronze medal in the Sambo competition in the under 64kg women’s category at the Asian Beach Games Phuket 2014 currently being held in Thailand.

Assaf won the medal after defeating a Thai athlete, but lost to Lebanese athlete Karen Shammas.

Fellow Syrian athlete Sameh Ramadan is due to compete in the under 82kg men’s category later on Wednesday.

Syria is participating in 8 competitions at the event: football, athletics, wrestling, Korash, Muay Thai, Triathlon, swimming, and Sambo.

Sambo is a martial art and combat sport developed by the Russian army.
