Ministries of Reconciliation Affairs and Health, Red Cross to enhance cooperation on humanitarian needs

Damascus, SANA- Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs Ali Haidar discussed Wednesday with Chairman of the International Red Cross Committee Peter Maurer ways to develop cooperation and joint work to achieve and enhance local reconciliation processes.

During the meeting, the minister said that “the local reconciliations, files of missing and the kidnapped citizens are main goals for the joint cooperation between the Syrian government and the international organization.”

Haidar affirmed that there are wide areas available for the Syrian people to return Home, adding the ministry will cooperate with the Red Cross to specify new areas for the rehabilitation activities.

For his part, Maurer expressed the organization’s willingness to improve the mission work and ease the burden and suffering of the Syrian people.

At a press statement following the meeting, Haidar said “the ministry seeks to invest work of the Red Cross as an international organization to boost the local reconciliations.

In turn, Maurer affirmed that that meeting was important for broadening the relief work and alleviate the suffering of the people due to the crisis.

Syria, ICRC discuss mutual health cooperation

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi stressed the importance of full cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and delivering medical services to those in need.

The minister’s comments came during his meeting with Peter Maurer and the accompanying delegation.

The two sides discussed the negative impacts of the economic sanctions against the health sector in Syria, stressing the necessity that the ICRC support the emergency system in Syria in light of the fact that 400 ambulances are now out of service due to terrorist acts.

Maurer, for his part, said the Committee will do all it takes to support the Syrian health sector and provide humanitarian assistance, indicating that the ICRC is committed to neutrality and independence in its work
