Pedersen: Respecting Syria’s sovereignty is a start point for any solution to crisis

New York, SANA- UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen reaffirmed the necessity of solving the crisis in Syria politically based on the principle of respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Interviewed by Iranian News Agency IRNA in New York , Pedersen said “I have emphasized several times in my reports which have been submitted to the Security Council that the start point should be respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Earlier, Pedersen has asserted the necessity of finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria based on the Security Council’s resolution No. 2254 which affirms Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and calls for a political solution owned and led by Syria and facilitated by the UN.

Pedersen expressed hope that the constitutional committee on which it was agreed upon last Monday will hold its first meeting over the next few weeks.
