Damascus, SANA_ The first Syrian Olympiad for mental arithmetic and the Abacus was held on Saturday at al-Fayhaa Sports Hall in Damascus with the participation of 400 students from different governorates,.
The competition, which was organized by the Genius Center for Mental Arithmetic, included specific questions for each of the nine levels of mental arithmetic ; the student is required to find the solution for 100 exercises in 7 minutes.
The winner will represent his / her team which, in turn, will qualify for external competitions .
Students aged between five and 14 years participated in the competition. They have been selected after several sub-competitions in 43 centers, 13 of which are in Damascus and its countryside, Director of the Genius Center Milad Nadaf said.
He pointed out that the program focuses on the children of martyrs and wounded personnel of the Syrian Arab army, confirming that this competition will be a step towards future global participations.
The participants expressed their happiness over this participation, hoping that they will reach international competitions to raise the Syrian flag high.
The Genius program for Mental Arithmetic, aims to provide free training and correct thinking environment for children to develop their mental and life skills.
The program has trained 5000 students so far from different provinces, mostly sons of martyrs and wounded personnel of the Syrian Arab Army, under the supervision of 110 trainers.
