Damascus, SANA – Syria aspires to win gold medals in the Fourth Asian Beach Games to be held next month in Phuket Island, Thailand, with a team of champions, particularly swimmers, who have international records.
Swimmer Saleh Mohammad Najem, who is nominated to participate in the Games, gained two golden medals in the first tournament of the Games held in Indonesia in 2008 and two medals– silver and gold- in Oman, 2010.
Last February, Mohammad ranked second in the long course swimming passing 88 km within the Argentina Long Course Championships.
Another swimmer is Bayan Jum’a, who is going to take part in long course swimming races for the first time, gained a bronze medal in the FINA World Short Course Championship in Dubai.
In Track and Field, athlete Majd-Eddin Ghazal is counted on to score good results as he won the second place in the 6th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships held in China and two gold medals of championships in Russia and Malaysia.
Member of the Executive Bureau of the General Sports Federation Luai al-Naasan told SANA that participation in this tournament comes in the framework of the Federation’s keenness on participating in the continental and international competitions with the aim of boosting communication.
He stressed that the Federation will not spare any effort in the course of supporting the participating athletes to have an active and successful participation.
For his part, Tarq Hatem, another member of the Executive Bureau, affirmed that the national team has been trained well, hoping that it will make its mark in competing with athletes from the 45 participating Asian states.
