Damascus, SANA – Syria did not fail to leave a mark in the Fourth Asian Beach Games that wrapped up on Sunday in the Thai island of Phuket coming out with 8 medals, including a gold.
Given the circumstances faced by the Syrian sport in general under the terrorist war raging in the country since 2011, Syria’s participation was remarkably good.
One gold, one silver and six bronze medals were the tally of the Syrian athletes in the Games, in which 6000 athletes from 43 countries competed in 26 games throughout the ten-day event.
Syria participated with 23 athletes in 8 games (football, sambo, kurash, wrestling, track and field, triathlon, muay thai) with a fairly good performance.
Athlete Majd-Eddin Ghazal, member of the Syrian national athletics team, won a gold medal in high jump competition, while Mohammad Amin Salama got a silver medal in the same game.
The six bronzes went to Maher al-Khayat (wrestling), Saleh Mohammad, who won two bronzes, (swimming), Nadia al-Assaf (sambo) and Methqal al-Jazmati (kurash) and Ismail Bteih (muay thai).
