Sochi, SANA – Preparations and deliberations for holding the 9th session of the Syrian-Russian Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation continued on Thursday for the second day in a row in the Russian city, Sochi.
Minister of Finance Ismael Ismael, who is head of the commision on the Syrian side, and Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Humam al-Jazaeri indicated progress in the course of preparations in terms of boosting bilateral cooperation and the signing of a cooperation protocol.
Minister Ismael said signing the protocol is a new approach that is based on activating trade exchange and developing proper mechanisms to increase the share of Russian products in the Syrian market and vice versa, particularly the Syrian agricultural and textile products.
The protocol includes promising investment opportunities for the Russian side in Syria, particularly in energy sector, including power, oil and gas, industry and construction.
The talks focused on meeting the requirements of economic recovery in Syria and the resumption of investment and economic development process in the country, after the ongoing terrorist war has taken its toll on all aspects of economy.
Syrian and Russian businessmen and representatives of state-owned companies in both countries, who held a joint session chaired, on the Syrian side, by minister al-Jazaeri, and the Russian Deputy Minister of Economic Development, emphasized mutual desire to promote bilateral and trade relations in all cooperation fields.
Talks during the meeting focused on increasing trade exchange volume between Syria and Russia for both countries to cope with Western sanctions.
