Damascus, SANA– UN Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen underlined the importance of the political solution to the crisis in Syria based on the Security Council’s resolution No. 2254 which affirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and calls for a political solution led by Syria and facilitated by the UN.
In a tweet on Thursday quoted by Sputnik Agency, Pedersen described his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem as “constructive” and it affirms the importance of the political solution to the crisis.
In his tweet, Pedersen said that he agreed with al-Moallem on visiting Damascus regularly to discuss the “points of convergence and disagreement between the two sides.”
He noted that there is still more discussion on all aspects of the “political process in Geneva.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Minister al-Moallem received Pedersen and the accompanying delegation and during the meeting, the two sides discussed the exerted efforts for making progress in the political track of the crisis in Syria and following up the ideas related to the political process.
