Munzer: Syria’s sovereign right over occupied Syrian Golan not up for negotiation, relinquishment, or prescription

New York, SANA – Acting charge d’affaires of Syria’s permanent delegation at the UN Munzer Munzer said that Syria’s sovereign right over the occupied Syrian Golan is not up for negotiation or relinquishment, nor can it ever be subject to prescription.

During a UN General Assembly session on the situation in the Middle East held on Friday, Munzer said that any measures taken by Israeli occupation to impose its laws and administration over Al Quds (Jerusalem) and the occupied Syrian Golan are completely illegal and are null and void.

Munzer said that Israel is still occupying the Syrian Golan and persecuting its Syrian people, and the occupation has always been trying to change the Golan’s legal and political status using methodical violations of human rights, from its attempts to force the Israeli nationality on the Syrians in Golan, up to its decision to hold the farcical “local councils” elections which the people of Golan have thwarted.

He stressed that Israel continues to seize lands and expand settlements in the occupied Golan, stealing its resources, altering its history, stealing its archeological artifacts, planting landmines in it.

He went on to note that Israel also preventing the people of the occupied Golan from contacting their relatives in the motherland, from studying Syrian curricula, from having Syrian identities, and from building hospitals in their occupied towns, and all of this is accompanied by policies of terrorism, oppression, racism, and arbitrary detainment against Syrians.

Munzer pointed out to the case of Sedqi al-Maqet, who after spending 27 years in Israeli jails was arrested again in 2015 and sentenced to 14 years in prison for documenting Israel’s cooperation with Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization.

“My country reiterates Syria’s sovereign right over the occupied Syrian Golan up to the June 4th 1967 line is not up for negotiation or relinquishment, nor can it ever be subject to prescription, and that our occupied lands and rights will be fully restored to us and Israel and its settlers must leave our lands in the Golan sooner or later,” he said.
Munzer also addressed Israel’s recurring transgressions and attacks on Syria, the most recent of which took place on the evening on November 29th in al-Kisweh area south of Damascus.

He affirmed Syria’s permanent and principled position in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, establishing an independent state with Al Quds as its capital, and guaranteeing the right of return.

Munzer concluded by calling on all states to vote in favor of the resolution titled “Syrian Golan” and all resolutions pertaining to Palestine.
