Lattakia, SANA – Olympic athlete Ghada Shua’a on Friday inaugurated the first edition of the Strongest Man and Woman in Syria event at Al-Assad Sports Complex in Lattakia as part of the Summer 2018 festivity.
After the opening ceremony, the event began with the first stage of the Strongest Woman competition, which includes 50-meters tire flip with 75 kg tires for contestants in the under 70 kg category and 100 kg for contestants over 70 kg, followed by 800 kg vehicle deadlift.
Those who pass the first stage will move on to compete later today in the Farmer’s Walk event in which contestants carry a heavy box for a set distance. The Strongest Man competitions will also begin later today with tire flip and vehicle deadlift.
The third stage will begin on Saturday, and at its conclusion the best two competitors in each weight category will receive awards.
In a statement to SANA, Shua’a said that this event is very significant as it is the first of its kind to be held in Syria, which shows the organizers’ forward thinking, adding that the Summer 2018 festivity proves that Syria is recovering, hoping that it will be the first of several similar events that encourage youths to play sports and unleash their potentials.
The event is organized by Awtar Group for Occasions and Marketing in cooperation with the Sports General Federation.
