Damascus, SANA-Ambassador of Belarus in Damascus Aleksandr Ponomarev announced that ten Belarusian companies specialized in manufacturing machinery, food, medical equipment, medicines and chemicals intend to participate in the upcoming 60th edition of Damascus International Fair.
Speaking to SANA, the ambassador considered the Belarusian companies’ intended participation a “significant opportunity” for them to close contracts with Syrian counterparts and import Syrian agricultural products.
Ponomarev affirmed his country’s willingness to offer expertise in the industrial field so as to contribute to the activation of productive projects and the provision of job opportunities, pointing out that the Syrian-Belarusian Joint Governmental Committee
for trade, economic and technical cooperation will be held next September to develop a roadmap to upgrade trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Over the past years of crisis in Syria, Belarus has focused attention on humanitarian projects such as food aid, medical equipment and medicine, according to the ambassador, and contributed to the opening of a sports facility in Herjalleh temporary housing center in Damascus countryside.
Last year, Belarus, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, organized an entertainment camp for martyrs’ children and children affected by war in the Belarusian capital of Minsk. Belarus is planning to host more than 500 children from Syria in a similar camp.
“The Belarusian embassy has kept its doors open during the crisis years in Syria as a token of support,” Ponomarev added, hoping that halted projects during the war will be kick-started.
The ambassador stressed that bilateral relations between Syria and Belarus are based on the principle of respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs and the maintenance of international peace and security.
He noted that this year the 25th anniversary of establishing mutual relations will be marked with various activities and events, including artistic performances by one of the renowned Belarusian teams in a number of Syrian provinces, in addition to the Belarusian Cinema Days.
