Ankara, SANA – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that eliminating Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization is the main task now after liberating large areas of Syrian territory from terrorism.
In a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara on Tuesday, Lavrov said the de-escalation agreement in Idleb does not apply to terrorist groups and the Syrian Army has the right to eliminate terrorism in all Syrian territory, stressing that Russia will continue to support the Syrian Army in the fight against terrorists.
He pointed out that the West and especially the US are trying to block the path of Astana to prevent the settlement of the crisis in Syria, pointing out that the imposition of sanctions on the guarantor states (Russia, Iran, and Turkey) may aim to influence the results of the talks in Astana in particular.
Lavrov said that work must be focused on reconstruction in Syria and facilitating the return of Syrian refugees to their home, stressing that the West has to encourage that.
