Moscow calls for lifting unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syrians

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed on the need to lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people and facilitate the return of Syrian refugees to their home as these measures hinder the process of political settlement of the crisis in the country.

During a press conference in Moscow on Thursday, Zakharova said that the Syrian government called on citizens forced by war and terrorist attacks to leave the country to return to their homeland after the liberation of the largest number of areas that were under the control of terrorists.

She pointed out that Moscow welcomes the invitation of the Syrian government and will provide the necessary assistance to the Syrian people in the reconstruction of the country and create conditions for the return of the displaced to their villages and towns.

Zakharova said that the illegal presence of US troops in the al-Tanf area is one of the reasons why the return of the displaced Syrians to their homes is hindered because it impedes the fight against terrorism, while at the same time the US is preventing the humanitarian aid to the displaced in al-Rukban camp, who have been taken hostage by the terrorists.

She also expressed her country’s optimism that the international community would respond to the calls of the Syrian government to lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people which was a further reason why the Syrians left their country and that the humanitarian organizations and the international community will shoulder their responsibilities in providing the requirements for the voluntary return of Syrian citizens to their country.

She pointed out that Western media outlets launched a campaign of false propaganda in conjunction with the operation of the Syrian Army to rid the southern areas of the country of terrorists, adding that the situation on the ground is completely different from the picture painted by that media based on the provocative allegations propagated by the so-called “White Helmets” and other organizations and personalities funded by Western capitals.
