Damascus, SANA – Damascus, with its old manuscripts, photographs, newspapers, and magazines, was showcased in the documentary exhibition “Damascus in the Eyes,” which is hosted at Al-Assad National Library in Damascus as its first special cultural activities for 2018.
The exhibition, which kicked off on Sunday, contains manuscripts about Damascus, its prominent figures, and events, some of which dating back to the 15th century, in addition to photos of Damascus taken in the 19th and 20th centuries and paintings by European artists from the 19th century depicting Damascene places and personalities.
Newspapers and periodicals dating back to the emergence of the press in Syria at the beginning of the twentieth century are also included in the exhibition, as well as books that were issued in the last thirty years about the heritage of Damascus.
Researcher Dr. Ali al-Qayyim said that the exhibition is a tribute to the history and greatness of Damascus, including books, pictures, and rare documents, adding that this exhibition is the beginning of various activities that will be presented by the Library, which will acquaint its visitors with the treasures it has acquired in order to restore its cultural role in highlighting Damascus’ heritage.
A number of documentary films about Damascus city will be screened during the seven-day exhibition.
