Mikdad: Syria committed to applying principles of international humanitarian law

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad reiterated Syria’s commitment to applying the principles of international humanitarian law fully.

This came in a statement after Mikdad, who is also the Chairman of the Syrian National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, opened a workshop on international humanitarian law for officers of the Army and Armed Forces.

Mikdad said that Syria is proud that its army and its allies are fully committed to international humanitarian law in all their battles against terrorism, asserting that in Syria this law is applied in reality, while the so-called international coalition that claims to respect international laws causes death and devastation, killing women and children and demolishing cities like what happened in Raqqa.

He explained that the workshop is part of a series of such activities organized with the Internaitonal Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

For her part, deputy head of the ICRC mission in Syria Valeria Gamboni said that these workshops seek to spread awareness about international humanitarian law and its principles, adding that cooperation with the Defense and Foreign and Expatriates Ministries in this field is ongoing.
