Moscow, SANA – Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East John X Yazigi expressed his gratitude to Russia for its assistance and support offered to the Syrian people in facing international terrorism.
At the closing session of the Russian Orthodox Synod held in Moscow on Saturday, Patriarch Yazigi said to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow “We highly appreciate your role in supporting and helping the Church of Antioch and value the humanitarian assistance provided by you to the Syrian people.”
“We would also like to extend special thanks to President Vladimir Putin, his diplomatic and political staff, and the Russian people for their role in protecting our land from terrorism as well as for Russia’s efforts to restore stability and to encourage peaceful solutions in our region,” he added.
Patriarch Yazigi went on to say “With the retreat of terrorists, the prospects of the peaceful solution will emerge. We, as a unified Orthodox Church, must do everything possible to preserve Syria’s unity.”
Patriarch Yazigi also referred to the two abducted bishops of Aleppo, Paul Yazigi and John Ebrahim, and several other clergymen, pointing out that this terrorist act aimed at intimidating the Church and silencing its voice, but the voice of truth did not stop for the sake of peace and stability for all the Syrian people.
For his part, Kirill of Moscow voiced full confidence that permanent stability will prevail in Syria and the victory upon terrorism will be achieved.
