Updated-Khamis: New vision to improve work of Economy & Foreign Trade ministry…Next round of Damascus Int’l  Fair in Sept. 2018

Damascus, SANA- A special work meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imad Khamis was held to discuss means of further enhancing the work of Economy and Foreign Trade Ministry and affiliated institutions to meet requirements of reconstruction stage.

The meeting, held on Monday, also discussed mechanisms to reduce negative sequences of the terrorist war and upgrade the Ministry’s performance, enhance strengths, address weaknesses in addition to setting up executive programs and effective follow-up procedures and investing in human capabilities.

Work of the Foreign Trade General Establishment and how to activate its role in the reconstruction stage to support national economy and increase competitiveness of Syrian products in foreign markets not to mention boosting its cooperation with the friendly Arab and foreign countries were also reviewed.

The meeting also dealt with means of supporting and developing local production and diversifying Syrian exports with maintaining their high quality and boosting their presence in foreign markets in addition to finding solutions to overcome obstacles hindering exportation process.

Stress was laid on the need to upgrade the work of free zones and enhance their contribution to the economic development process in order to meet needs of local markets and achieve high revenues that support the State Treasury.

The Premier pointed out to setting up comprehensive training plan to improve capability and expertise of the Ministry’s national cadres which proved effective in enhancing steadfastness of national economy throughout the war years.

He also stressed the importance of drawing up systematic economic policies in coordination with concerned parties away from arbitrariness which hinders the process of identifying goals and responsibilities in a transparent way.

Later, Prime Minister Khamis set September 6th, 2018 as date for inaugurating the 60th edition of Damascus International Fair, saying the next round of the fair will be under the patronage of President Bashar al-Assad.

“Big efforts will be exerted to make the International Fair successful with all criterions and achieve the aspired-for goal on the national economic level,” Khamis said in a press statement following a government meeting held at Damascus Fairgrounds.

He added that public and private economic, tourist and trade sides have agreed to raise the motto “made in Syria” for the upcoming Fair.

Khamis went on to say that the government hopes the Fairgrounds would be a platform for different continuous economic, investment, culture and entertaining activities.

Earlier, the government delegation started its visit to the Fairgrounds by honoring the staff who made the 59th edition of the Fair as successful.

“The 59th round of Damascus International Fair that came after years of suspension was a direct declaration of Syria’s victory in its war against terrorism and a recovery for the production wheel,” Khamis added.

He affirmed that that the government adopts a balanced economic policy which leads to a stability in the price of Syrian pound, saying that the improvement in the price of the Lira in front of Dollar will decrease the prices of goods and raise the citizen’s purchasing capability.
