Striker al-Somah: Syrian football team becomes one of the best-qualified teams to win 2019 AFC Asian Cup

Damascus, SANA – The star striker Omar al-Somah said that the Syrian football team has become one of the best-qualified teams to win the 2019 AFC Asian Cup as it had astonished and astounded the whole world by its high performance and exceptional agility.

Interviewed by SANA Sports bulletin, scorer al-Somah highlighted the ability of sports to bring all people together, no matter what their origin, background, religious beliefs or economic status.

Al-Somah thanked all Syrians and soccer fans around the world for their support in order to raise the Syrian national flag high in Australia, China, South Korea, Iran, Qatar, Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

 Al -Somah began his football career at the age of 12 joining al-Futowa football club.  At the age of 17, he scored 12 goals making him the third top scorer in his debut season in the Syrian Premier League 2008–2009. He also played for the Syrian U-19 national team in the AFC U-19 Championship 2008 in Saudi Arabia.

Striker Omar al-Somah was born in the Syrian city of Deir Ezzor in 1989. He won the top scorer of Under-18 Syrian Premier League with 29 goals. In 2013, he won the Kuwaiti Premier League title as top scorer with 23 goals. In July 2014, al-Somah joined the Saudi al-Ahli football club where he went on to become the top goal-scorer in the league for the years 2015, 2016, and 2017 consecutively. He was labeled as the fastest  player who scored his 50th goal in only 45 league games. Al-Somah stands tall against some of the biggest names in world football breaking the Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and Swedish icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s  records for Champions League goals.
