President al-Assad meets Tunisian parliamentary delegation

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad received on Monday a parliamentary delegation comprising members of a number of Tunisian parties headed by Mbarka Brahmi.

President al-Assad stressed that the visits of delegations from the brotherly Republic of Tunisia at various popular and parliamentary levels to Syria reflect the movement and vitality within the Tunisian society, pointing out that these visits are important for dialogue and to see the reality of the situation on the ground.

President al-Assad said that the points of weaknesses in the Arab countries are similar and that the foreign targeting of Arab countries is the same, but under different titles and names, pointing out that the popular awareness of this targeting has become great, and therefore the role of Arab parliaments is essential for exchanging expertise and experiences and creating a state of dialogue not about the current situation only, but also about the future “because the external interventions will continue with the aim of changing our identity and dividing us into communities and small groups.”

For their part, members of the delegation said that they came to Syria to express the supportive position of the Tunisian people towards the Syrians, who have stood their ground despite all external support provided to the terrorist attack targeting them.

They also hailed Syria’s reconciliation process and the Syrians’ resolve to achieve victory and on reconstruction which they witnessed during their visit, stressing their determination to activate the work for further coordination between the Tunisian and Syrian parliaments in all fields.

In the same context, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem met the Tunisian delegation and affirmed the importance of developing parliamentary relations between the two countries, stressing that Syria is continuing its war on terrorism that is supported by regional and international countries.
