Local Administration Ministry, ICRC discuss joint cooperation programs

Damascus, SANA – Local Administration and Environment Minister Hussein Makhlouf discussed on Wednesday with Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Syria Marianne Gasser the joint cooperation programs on humanitarian and relief work in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).

Makhlouf affirmed the importance of existing cooperation in the areas of rehabilitation of temporary housing centers and securing the necessary urgent needs, referring to the possibility of implementing a number of future projects between the two sides.

He stressed that the government attaches great importance to the areas liberated by the Syrian Arab Army and the rehabilitation of infrastructure in them in order to enable people to return to their homes, indicating that the number of food packages distributed in the unstable areas amounted to 550124.

For her part, Gasser said that the committee’s work is aimed at alleviating the suffering of affected families and providing assistance to them and implementing various cooperation projects with the Syrian government, in addition to close cooperation with the SARC in various fields, pointing out that the ICRC mission seeks to strengthen this cooperation through the implementation of projects proposed by the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment in the framework of implementing the response plan and improve the livelihoods of citizens.
