Geneva, SANA – UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura stressed that he intends to hold four rounds of intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva by the end of 2017, saying “we hope that by the end of the year, we will be having quite a different picture in Syria.”
In an interview given to Sputnik Agency, de Mistura considered that the mediation technique is to prepare all sides to sit together and see what the common points are.
““I was pleasantly surprised how many commonalities the opposition parties can find, and they are not that far even from some of the points of the government side. Like sovereignty, unity, integrity, institutions that need to be protected and many more things,” de Mistura said.
He added that the world’s leaders are very much focusing together on what are the priorities along which the Syrian crisis can be deconstructed from its complexity, pointing out that the priority seems to be among everyone is fighting ISIS, liberating Raqqa, and lifting the siege on Deir Ezzor.”
“And in link to that, how you stabilize the country following that. The only way is through the political process,” he added.
