Al-Qaderi to FAO Director General: Government working to revitalize agriculture

Rome, SANA –Agriculture Minister Ahmad al-Qaderi on Friday met Director General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) José Graziano da Silva on the sideline of the 40th FAO conference held in Rome.

The two sides discussed cooperation between Syria and the organization and means to develop it, with al-Qaderi briefing da Silva on the efforts made by the Syrian government to revitalize agriculture and support farmers despite the terrorist war and the sanctions imposed on it.

The Minister thanked da Silva for the aid provided by the FAO via its office in Damascus in developing the agriculture and livestock sectors, adding that the next stage will require further support as Syria enters the recovery and rebuilding phase.

For his part, da Silva said that the FAO is committed to carrying out development programs and activities and supporting agriculture and farmers, and that it will work on increasing its contribution.
