Putin hopes de-escalation zones would be step towards political dialogue in Syria

Moscow, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the de-escalation zones in Syria should be a step towards a future political dialogue to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity.

Putin’s remarks came during a meeting with heads of international news agencies on the sidelines of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

He expressed hope that some  kind of dialogue or interaction would be established between those areas and the government in Damascus, noting that there are areas held by the so-called armed opposition near Damascus where people go to their work every day and return back to their houses.

President Putin was confident that dialogue between the Syrian government and the armed groups is possible as a practical practice in de-escalation zones too.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is an annual Russian business event for the economic sector during which key economic issues in Russia and the world are discussed.
