Geneva, SANA – UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said that the unofficial meetings of experts that started in Geneva will contribute to facilitating the political process for resolving the crisis in Syria, and that drafting Syria’s constitution is up to the Syrian people.
In a press conference in Geneva on Friday, De Mistura announced the conclusion of sixth round of intra-Syrian talks in Geneva, which was a short session as was intended and which focused on strengthening the political process, voicing belief that it was a success in this regard.
De Mistura said that the experts meetings do not aim at drafting a new constitution or any law for Syria, as this is up to the Syrian people; rather they aim at establishing basis that allow the Syrian people to do that in the context of the political solution as per UN resolution no. 2254.
He noted that the agenda based on the four baskets which was agreed upon earlier is still standing, and preparations are underway for another round of talks which might begin in June.
