President al-Assad issues law on exempting imported machines and production lines from fees

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad issued on Sunday Law no.19 for 2017 on exempting imported machines and production lines for licensed industrial facilities from customs duties and other charges arising from importation.

According to the Law, the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade will be in charge of granting import licenses concerning those machines and production lines.

In a statement to SANA, Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Mohammad Samer al-Khalil said that the law is part of the efforts to address obstacles hindering industrialists from resuming production and seeks to support and encourage them to both reactivate facilities that have been damaged by terrorism and to increase the output of operative facilities.

Al-Khalil said that the law is an important step towards restoring the luster of Syrian industry, noting that the Ministry has issued a unified guide for giving import licenses which allows importing all industrial production materials and requirements to support local industry and encourage it to raise production.
