Geneva, SANA – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that the draft resolution submitted by some Western states to the Security Council which suggests imposing sanctions on Syria under pretext of using chemical weapons is unacceptable.
Speaking to journalist upon his arrival in Geneva on Monday, Gatilov said that the Western version of the draft resolution is unacceptable for Russia.
Back on Friday, Russia’s Permanent Representative at the UN Vladimir Safronkov said that Russia intends to veto the aforementioned draft resolution which was prepared by the US, UK, and France, asserting that the evidence that the three states base their resolution upon are insufficient and that it violates the principle of innocence until the investigation is other.
When asked if he intends to meet any of the participants in the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva, Gatilov said that he came to Geneva to participate in the UN Human Rights Council meetings, and that he will meet UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, adding that holding other meetings isn’t unlikely.
