Idlib, May 3 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, and Idlib Governor Mohammad Abdul Rahman met with United Nations Resident Humanitarian Coordinator Nathalie Fustier in Idlib to discuss condition in displacement camps and humanitarian response.
The meeting focused on the challenges facing thousands of internally displaced people and the need to maintain humanitarian support.
During her visit to Idlib, the coordinator, accompanied by the Minister of Emergency, met with displaced families at the Old Stadium camp in the town of Hazano, north of Idlib, to assess their living and humanitarian conditions and discuss challenges related to return.
Fustier’s visit to Idlib comes as the United Nations and the Syrian government step up coordination on future development plans.
Earlier, in Damascus, Fustier took part in a workshop that brought together the Syrian government and the UN country team, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the participation of donor countries, diplomatic missions, and civil society organizations.
The workshop, held on April 7, aimed to enhance cooperation on a sustainable development framework for Syria covering the period 2027–2030.
In remarks to SANA, Fustier described the meeting as a key step toward establishing a structured partnership for the coming years, saying it offers an opportunity to “chart a new path toward recovery and development” in coordination with Syrian authorities.
She also highlighted the concept of a “Syria without camps” as a possible priority, noting that it would allow a transition from humanitarian assistance to recovery and development if implemented effectively.
