Amman, Aug. 21 (SANA) Foreign ministers of 12 Arab and Muslim countries strongly condemned Friday the Israeli airstrikes targeting Abu al-Duhur Airbase in Idlib, describing them as a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
In a joint statement published by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, the foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Algeria, Lebanon, Palestine, Türkiye, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritania, Somalia and Pakistan expressed deep concern over Israel’s continued targeting of Syrian territory and infrastructure.
They said such actions directly threaten Syria’s ongoing efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions and address the humanitarian consequences of years of war.
The ministers warned that continued Israeli violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity risk escalating tensions, undermining regional peace and stability, and eroding respect for international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
They called on the international community to adopt a firm, clear and principled position against the ongoing aggression against Syria and take concrete measures, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter, to end these violations.
They also called for full respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they have occupied, in order to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace and stability.
The ministers reaffirmed the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and political unity, stressing their rejection of any attempts to undermine them.
Syria has strongly condemned the Israeli airstrikes that targeted Abu al-Duhur Airbase early Tuesday, describing them as an unjustified act of aggression and a blatant violation of its sovereignty, as well as a dangerous escalation threatening security and stability in the region. The strikes have drawn widespread Arab and international condemnation.
