Hasakah, April 21 (SANA) Spokesperson for the Presidential Team tasked with implementing the Jan. 29 agreement with the SDF, Ahmad al-Hilali, said Tuesday that after the handover of the main court in Hasakah to the Ministry of Justice, those inside the main court prevented judges from entering and resuming their duties.
Al-Hilali said: “We headed to Qamishli yesterday following the handover of the main court in Hasakah, but were surprised by the refusal of those inside the courthouse to hand it over and allow judges to resume their work, without providing any justification. Judges were prevented from returning to their duties in Hasakah, which constitutes an unjustified escalation that increases the suffering of residents.”
He added that despite attempts by some jurist figures within the SDF to facilitate the process, those efforts did not yield results due to the insistence of other parties on postponing the handover indefinitely, making it difficult to set a clear timeline at this stage.
Al-Hilali stressed that the Ministry of Justice is a sovereign institution and cannot operate outside a unified framework across Syrian territory, emphasizing the principle of one law, one army, one flag and one state. He reiterated that there is no alternative to the January 29 agreement, which stipulates that the government assumes control of institutions and integrates SDF facilities into state institutions.
The delegation from the Ministry of Justice, headed by Prosecutor General Hassan al-Turba, had inspected several prisons and the main court in Hasakah over the past two days. The delegation was accompanied by the Presidential Team and Internal Security Command, as part of procedures to assume control of detention and judicial facilities and link them to the ministry’s judicial system.
